This is Forg, a Beta version of a frog. He has lots of questions about frog stuff. Flies. Bodies of water. Tadpoles.
Having a lot of mobs with a variety of questions will be one of the things that keeps this game interesting.
I still haven’t landed on a good art style.
Other than just making little doodle-guys.
Which is fine.
If the game got to a point where I’d want to put it out there, as in actually release it, I imagine I’d hire actual artists to do the artwork.
I’m trying to make it in a style that is akin to Paper Mario, with 2D sprites hopping around a pseudo-3D world. It’s cutesy. It’s enjoyable to watch on a handheld device.
And, most importantly, all of the animation is a manipulation of a simple 2D asset, so it’s incredibly light work for an artist. (Well, I say “light work,” but it’s not really “light work” to do this kind of art. What I mean is the artist only has to generate a few images for each character, not a whole series of sprite sheets. Get one or two good images and Godot takes it from there.)
There’s not much point in getting too heavily into the art side of things if the art is going to be replaced.
Other than I think it’s fun to draw these things. And, you never know, I may come up with some gems.
Forg probably isn’t one.
